Nose: An incredible basket of fruit! Fresh apples from your garden, clementines and citrus fruits with banana

Palate: Woody and spicey then suddenly the afterburner comes on and BAM! Fire and Pepper hit your tongue and gums! (note: im drinking a cask strength botling)

Finish: Rich and with medium length – the flavors slowly vanish into the distance

Overall: What a stunning whisky – Im buying a bottle!

Whisky Sundays at The Machar Bar!

We have just confirmed that for the next 4 Sundays the St Machar Bar will be hosting exclusive tastings for us.

Each Sunday will include 4 unique Drams and a pie for only £8!

Week 1 – 28th February : Islands Tasting

Featuring – Jura, Talisker, Ardbeg, Scapa (TBC)

Week 2 – 7th March: Speyside

Week 3 – 14th March: Highlands and Islands

Week 4 – 21st March: Islay

You must buy tickets in advance from the Machar Bar

Tickets will go on sale every Monday before the event

£8 per person per event.

Details of which Whiskies we will be tasting will be revealed before every event!

The Glenlivet and Chivas Bros. Tasting

Wow! What can I say?

We had a fantastic tasting from Phil Huckle, the UK Pernod-Ricard ambassador. He gave us a fascinating insight into the history of The Glenlivet and Chivas Brothers. Phil had generously brought along the following drams!

The Glenlivet:

Nadurra – £41.88 / 54.2% ABV
18 year old – £35.75 / 43% ABV
21 year old – £70.49 / 43% ABV

Chivas Brothers:

18 year old – £46.48 / 40% ABV
Royal Salute Hundred Cask £183.91 / 40% ABV

My personal favorite was the 21 year old but I was very impressed by the Chivas 18 year old. I think the overall winner was the Royal Salute.

The evening was fantastic – we can not thank Phil enough, who even came back to mine for a few drams!

Another sold out event with extra people that unfortunately were turned away.

We hope to see Phil Huckle soon!

Nose: Salty and Windy – like walking along a pebbly beach.

Palate: Chewy – like a bubblegum or candyfloss . I just keep chewing this whisky – it almost has a 3D feel.

Finish: Very very long. It just doesn’t want to go.

Overall: What a great dram! I really do love this. It is so easy to drink – I think I’ll need to buy another bottle quite soon.

A bargain at £99 for a 30 year old!

Nose: Fresh and crispy winters day. Faint smoke lingering through the air.

Palate: Wow! Vanilla, cream, milky coffee (latte?).

Finish: Not as long as I’d hoped for but it still lingers a little bit.

Overall: This is a beautiful dram and at only £99 for a 30 year old I feel like I am stealing!

Oddbins Wine (plus Whisky) Event

I attended this event with a friend under the impression there would be about 50/50 wine/whisky. However, unfortunatly when we arrived there was only one table of drams – Bruichladdich.

The Bruichladdich Table wasn’t bad though – no Octomore unfortunately:

Waves – £29.99

Peat – £32.99

12 yo (2nd Edition) – £34.99

Then got merrily tipsy on Pol Roger and Bollinger Champagne. All in all an alright event. Hopefully we’ll see more whiskies next time.
